ROCKET JUMPING
|
Written by Rimuladas Adapted by Fornaught
The rjump is an essential technique to master for any soldier.
It gives you extra mobility use to reach places quicker than you could running.
It will also aid you in combat, both to get closer to your enemy or to get away when you need to.

The Single Rocket Jump
The good old rocket jump,
found in Quake 2 and now in TFC. . The rocket jump will enable you to jump enormous
heights and if done correctly will not damage you too much. It is a
fairly simple jump but depending on how well you perform the jump the
height achieved will vary. In order to make a rocket jump do the
following:
- Look down.
- Jump and fire your rocket under your feet.
- If done correctly you will be airborne :).
- If done wrong you will fly off in a random direction ;O)
The jumping and firing of
the rocket during the jump is the move that will determine your height
and effectiveness of your jump. The firing of the rocket must be done
immediately after you have pressed the jump key. Good soldiers can run forward, swing thier aim to just
behind and beneath them, fire a rocket at the ground and be sent flying across the map.
You will learn that changing the angle you fire the rocket will change the height and horizontal distance of your rjump.
Practice it for 20 mins and you will have enough skill to take on any map.
The factors of latency (pings etc)
will also affect how you rocket jump, if your latency is extremely high
you will find it very difficult to perform the jump. Try reducing your
latency by reading the tweaks sections. You should also try to get
the highest fps your video can achieve - a smoother game makes everything easier.
There are also several scripts that
enables you to perform the entire rocket jump with the touch of a single key.
scripts are very useful when learning TFC, a rocket jump script will give you that added bit of fun
that will keep you playing TFC. It should also give you the confidence to learn manual rocket jumping, once
you can do every jump by hand you have the flexibility to become a top soldier.
The Double Rocket Jump
This is a rocket jump where
two rockets are fired. It can get you up some amazing heights but means
that you get nearly double the damage from the blast of the rockets, not
recommended unless your health and armour are 100% or just below. The main use
is to reach a height one rjump cannot reach, for example vertical jumping out of the
pit on crossover2. It is best done against a wall so that as you move upwards from the
first rjump you have a surface to fire the second rocket off to throw you higher.
To do this jump do the following:
- Perform normal rocket jump
- Once you get near your peak height, just before you begin to drop and
lose altitude, fire another rocket to go back up again.
- NOTE: There has to be a wall in front of you which your second
rocket will hit to send you up again (no point if it's air and the
rocket goes flying forward away from you)
- If done correctly you will go REALLY high.
- If done incorrectly you'll probably end up dead :)
Air Steering
Once you are in the air your job is not done! The half-life engine gives
you superb control of your direction in the air - airsteering. Using only your
strafe keys plus your mouse aim you can literally do a circle in the air.
Your speed will also increase if you airsteer in curves ( in movements similar to bhopping).
That is how good soldiers stay in the air longer and go farther.
Have fun flying :)
(Note: scripts are available on the jump scripts page for the rocket jump)
